Diagnostic Procedures

NOTE: If DTC P0502 is also set, diagnose that DTC first. See DTC P0502: VSS CIRCUIT - LOW INPUT (A/T)  .
  1. Raise and support drive wheels. Start engine. Using scan tool, monitor TRANSMISSION OSS while manually rotating drive wheels to more than 3 MPH. If reading is consistently less than 100 RPM or reading intermittently drops out, go to next step. If reading is not consistently less than 100 RPM and does not intermittently drop out, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Turn ignition on, engine off. Disconnect OSS connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage at OSS connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire). If voltage is more than 0.2 volt, repair short to voltage in Yellow wire. If voltage is less than 0.2 volt, check sensor connector for tightness, corrosion or damage, replace sensor if problem was found. Check for intermittent short to ground or short to voltage on Yellow wire or intermittent open anywhere in circuit. Repair as necessary.
