Diagnostic Procedures

NOTE: If DTC P0141 is also set, diagnose that DTC first. An inoperative heater may have caused this DTC to set.
  1. Operate engine at 1500 RPM for 2 minutes. Ensure ECT is more than 158°F (70°C). Using scan tool, monitor HO2S2. If voltage reading is within 425-460 millivolts, go to next step. If voltage reading is not within 425-460 millivolts, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S2 harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using a jumper wire, connect jumper wire between ground and HO2S2 harness connector terminal "A" (Tan/White wire), and between ground and terminal "B" (Purple/White wire). Observe scan tool reading. If voltage reading is more than 100 millivolts, go to next step. If voltage reading is less than 100 millivolts, check for loose connection. Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, replace HO2S2 sensor.
  3. Disconnect jumper wires. Using a DVOM, check voltage between ground and HO2S2 harness connector terminal "B" (Purple/White wire). If voltage reading is 4-6 volts, check for loose connection or open in circuit between HO2S2 harness connector terminal "A" (Tan/White wire) and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If circuit and terminals are okay, replace PCM. If voltage reading is not 4-6 volts, check for loose connection or open in circuit between HO2S2 harness connector terminal "B" (Purple/White wire) and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. If circuit and terminals are okay, replace PCM.
