Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF. Monitor the clutch pedal position switch parameter using the scan tool. Depress and release the clutch pedal several times. Does the scan tool display change states when the clutch pedal is depressed and released? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If no, go to next step.
  3. Inspect the adjustment of the clutch pedal position switch. Was an adjustment necessary? If yes, go to step  14. If no, go to next step.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch connector. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF. Measure the voltage from the clutch pedal position signal circuit using the Digital Multimeter (DMM). Does the DMM display battery voltage? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  6.
  5. Jumper the clutch pedal position switch terminals together using a fused jumper wire. Monitor the clutch pedal position switch parameter using a scan tool. Does the scan tool display the Clutch Switch Released? If yes, go to step  9. If no, go to step  8.
  6. Test the continuity of the clutch pedal signal circuit using the DMM connected to ground. Does the DMM display continuity? If yes, go to step  11. If no, go to next step.
  7. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the PCM connector C1 located on the same side as the manufacturer logo. Test the continuity of the clutch pedal signal circuit using the DMM. Does the DMM display continuity? If yes, go to step  10. If no, go to step  11.
  8. Test the continuity of the clutch pedal ground circuit using the DMM. Does the DMM display continuity? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  12.
  9. Inspect for poor connections at the clutch pedal position switch connector. If you find a poor connection repair the condition as necessary. Did you correct the condition? If yes, go to step  15. If no, go to step  13.
  10. Inspect for poor connections at the PCM. If you find a poor connection repair the condition as necessary. Did you correct the condition? If yes, go to step  15. If no, go to step  14.
  11. Repair the clutch pedal position switch signal circuit. After repairs, go to step  15.
  12. Repair the clutch pedal position switch ground circuit. After repairs, go to step  15.
  13. Replace the clutch pedal position switch. After repairs, go to step  15.
  14. Replace the PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. Reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
  15. Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  2.
  16. Observe the stored information, Capture Info with a scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
