Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe: Removal

- Disconnect the upper oil cooler line fitting at the radiator. See Fig 1 . Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Disconnect the lower oil cooler line fitting at the radiator. Remove the propeller shaft. See appropriate DRIVESHAFT & UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVE AXLES.
- Remove the rear axle torque arm. See appropriate REAR article in SUSPENSION. Remove the catalytic converter hanger. Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Remove the transmission support.
- Lower the transmission jack slightly. This will allow access to the oil cooler fittings on the transmission. Pull the plastic cap back from the quick connect fitting and down along the cooler line about 2 inches.
- Using a bent-tip screwdriver, pull on one of the ends of the E-clip until the clip is out of position and can be completely removed. See Fig 2 . Remove the E-clip from the quick connect fitting. Discard the E-clip. Pull the cooler line straight out from the quick connect fitting.
- On 3.8L models, remove the oil cooler pipes from the clip at the engine mount. See Fig 3 . On 5.7L models, remove the oil cooler pipes from the clip at the oil pan. See Fig 4 . On all models, remove the cooler lines from the vehicle. On 5.7L models, remove the oil cooler lines from the clip at the generator bracket. See Fig 5 .
