Valve Lifters: Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Clean the components in cleaning solvent. Dry the components with compressed air.
- Inspect the valve lifters for bent or broken clip, worn pushrod socket, or scuffed or worn sides. If the valve lifter shows wear, inspect the engine block lifter bores for wear or damage. Check for flat spots or the roller, loose or damaged pin, plugged oil hole, or worn or damaged roller bearing. The roller should rotate freely with no binding or roughness.
- Inspect the valve guides for cracks, damage or excessive wear in the lifter mounting bores.
