Timing Chain: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the oil pump. See OIL PUMP  under ENGINE OILING.
  2. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts. Remove the camshaft sprocket and timing chain. See Figure.
  3. Use the Two Jaw Puller (J-8433), Crankshaft End Protector (J-41816-2) and Crankshaft Sprocket Remover (J-41558) in order to remove the crankshaft sprocket. See Figure.
  4. Remove the crankshaft sprocket. See Figure. Remove the crankshaft sprocket key, if required. See Figure. Clean and inspect the timing chain and sprockets.
