Intake Manifold: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Ensure injector connectors are marked for installation reference prior to removal. Performance and emissions will be affected if injector connectors are not positioned correctly.
NOTE:
The intake manifold, throttle body, fuel injection rail, and fuel injectors may be removed as an assembly. If not servicing the individual components, remove the manifold as a complete assembly.
- Remove the throttle body. See THROTTLE BODY . Remove the fuel rail. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Remove the transmission fluid level indicator tube bolt. Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the accelerator control cable bracket nut. Remove the accelerator control cable and cruise control servo bracket.
- Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) tube from the right side rocker arm cover and throttle body. Remove the PCV valve pipe from the left side rocker arm cover. Remove the PCV valve pipe strap nut. Remove the PCV valve pipe from the right side rocker arm cover and intake manifold.
- Disconnect the vapor line from the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve. See Figure. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve harness connector. See Figure.
- Remove the EVAP canister purge tube from the intake manifold and EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve (with bracket), from the intake manifold.
- Disconnect the knock sensor harness connector. See Figure. Remove the knock sensor wire harness connector from the fuel rail stop bracket. Disconnect the secondary Air Injection Reaction (AIR) vacuum control solenoid valve harness connector. See Figure.
- Disconnect the AIR shut-off valve vacuum harness from the AIR shut-off valve and vacuum tee. Remove the AIR vacuum control solenoid valve (with bracket), from the intake manifold. Remove the power brake booster vacuum hose from the vacuum port.
- Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor harness connector. See Figure. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the tee on the rear vacuum port. See Figure. Remove the MAP sensor from the rear of the intake manifold.
- Remove the intake manifold bolts and fuel rail stop bracket. Remove the intake manifold. Remove the intake manifold-to-cylinder head gaskets. Discard the gaskets. Clean and inspect the intake manifold.
