Installation (Right Side)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts as specified in the service procedure. Improperly installed and/or leaking exhaust manifold gaskets may effect vehicle emissions and/or On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) II system performance.
NOTE: The cylinder head exhaust manifold bolt hole threads must be clean and free of debris or threadlocking material.
  1. Apply a 0.2" (5 mm), wide band of Threadlock (GM P/N 12345493) to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold. See Figure.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold bolts. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts by beginning with the center 2 bolts and alternating from side-to-side, working toward the outside. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Using a flat punch, bend over the exposed edge of the exhaust manifold gasket at the rear of the cylinder head.
  4. Install the heat shield and heat shield bolts to the manifold, if required. Tighten the heat shield bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the right side catalytic converter. See CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
  6. Lower the vehicle. Install the spark plugs. Install the right side valve rocker arm cover. See VALVE COVERS .
