NOTE:
Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts as specified in the service procedure. Improperly installed and/or leaking exhaust manifold gaskets may effect vehicle emissions and/or On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) II system performance.
NOTE:
The cylinder head exhaust manifold bolt hole threads must be clean and free of debris or threadlocking material.
NOTE:
DO NOT apply threadlock to the first 3 threads of the bolts.
- Apply a 0.2" (5 mm) wide band of Threadlock (GM P/N 12345493) to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold. See Figure.
- Install the exhaust manifold bolts. Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts by beginning with the center 2 bolts and alternating from side-to-side, working toward the outside. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a flat punch, bend over the exposed edge of the exhaust manifold gasket at the rear of the cylinder head.
- Install the heat shield and heat shield bolts to the manifold, if required. Tighten the heat shield bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the left side catalytic converter. See CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
- Lower the vehicle. Install the spark plugs. Install the left side valve rocker arm cover. See VALVE COVERS .
