Flushing Cooling System

NOTE:
DO NOT use a chemical flush. Various methods and equipment can be used to flush the cooling system. If special equipment is used (such as a back flusher) follow the manufacturer's instruction. However, always remove the thermostat before back flushing the system.
- Block the drive wheels. Place the transmission in Park or Neutral Engage the park brake.
- Remove the thermostat. See THERMOSTAT .
- Fill the cooling system with water only.
- Run the vehicle until normal operating temperature is reached. Drain the cooling system.
- Repeat until the drained water is nearly colorless.
- Remove, clean and install the coolant recovery reservoir.
- Remove the battery.
- Reposition the coolant recovery reservoir hose clamp from the radiator. Remove the coolant recovery hose from the radiator.
- Remove the accelerator and cruise control servo cable bolts. Reposition the servo cable adjuster.
- Remove the coolant recovery reservoir mounting bolt.
- Remove the wiring harness rosebud clip from the reservoir neck. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
- Remove the coolant recovery reservoir hose from the coolant recovery reservoir.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill the coolant recovery reservoir to the FULL COLD mark.
- Install the thermostat. See THERMOSTAT .
