Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, 2002 Chevrolet Impala, 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and 2001 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If door system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DOOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing door system diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Using scan tool, observe DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH parameter in BODY CONTROL MODULE data list. If scan tool displays INACTIVE, go to next step. If scan tool does not display INACTIVE, go to step  4 .
  3. Observe DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH parameter in BODY CONTROL MODULE data list while depressing and holding either door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If door unlock switch parameter changes state, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If door unlock switch parameter does not change state, go to step  7 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect driver door lock switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Using scan tool, observe DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH parameter in BODY CONTROL MODULE data list. If scan tool displays INACTIVE, go to step  8 . If scan tool does not display INACTIVE, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect driver door lock switch. Disconnect passenger door lock switch. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Using scan tool, observe DOOR UNLOCK SWITCH parameter in BODY CONTROL MODULE data list. If scan tool displays INACTIVE, go to step  8 . If scan tool does not display INACTIVE, go to next step.
  6. Check for short to ground in Orange/Black wire between BCM Gray 24-pin harness connector C2 terminal B3 and driver door lock switch. BCM is located under left side of instrument panel, above parking brake. See Figure and Figure . Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  7. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connectors. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  9 .
  8. Check for poor connection at appropriate door lock switch harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace and program BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Replace appropriate door lock switch. See DOOR LOCK SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  11. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC as specified in CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
