WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If the system operation and the necessary inspection was performed, go to step 2 . See SYMPTOMS (HYDRAULIC BRAKES) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Observe the Red brake indicator. If the Red brake indicator illuminates briefly during the bulb check, go to step 3 . If the Red brake indicator does not illuminate briefly during the bulb check, go to step 12 .
- Apply the park brake. If the Red brake indicator illuminates, go to step 4 . If the Red brake indicator does not illuminate, go to step 5 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Release the park brake. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch and a the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. If the Red brake indicator illuminates, go to step 11 . If the Red brake indicator does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the park brake switch and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. If the Red brake indicator illuminates, go to step 10 . If the Red brake indicator does not illuminate, go to step 6 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) module. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the brake waring signal circuit of the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) module connector, and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. If the Red brake indicator illuminates, go to step 16 . If the Red brake indicator does not illuminate, go to step 7 .
- Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a high resistance or a open. See appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS in ELECTRICAL. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 17 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 12 .
- Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or a open. See appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS in ELECTRICAL. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 17 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 9 .
- Test the ground circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a high resistance or an open. See appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS in ELECTRICAL. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 17 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 12 .
- Inspect for poor case ground or poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 17 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 13 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 17 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 14 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument cluster (IPC). If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 17 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 15 .
- Replace the park brake switch. See PARKING BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair was completed, go to step 17 .
- Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair was completed, go to step 17 .
- Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If the repair was completed, go to step 17 .
- Replace the Daytime Running Lights module (DRL). See DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair was completed, go to step 17 .
- Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the symptom. If the condition was corrected, system is okay. If the condition was not corrected, go to step 2 .
