Brake Warning Indicator Always On

- If the system operation and the necessary inspection was performed, go to step 2 . If the system operation and necessary inspection was not performed, see SYMPTOMS (HYDRAULIC BRAKES) under TROUBLESHOOTING.
- Inspect the brake fluid level. If the brake fluid level is okay, go to step 3 . If the brake fluid is not okay, see BRAKE SYSTEM EXTERNAL LEAK INSPECTION under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Release the park brake. With a scan tool, observe the Red brake indicator parameter in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) data list. If the scan tool indicates that the Red Brake indicator parameter is OFF, go to step 4 . If the scan tool indicates that the Red Brake indicator parameter is not Off, go to step 5 .
- With a scan tool, observe the RED BRAKE INDICATOR in the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER data list. If the scan tool indicates that the Red brake indicator is OFF, see appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. If the scan tool indicates that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is not OFF, go to step 7 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter. If the scan tool indicates that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is OFF, go to step 10 . If the scan tool indicates that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is not OFF, go to step 6 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the daytime running lights module. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter. If the scan tool indicate that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is OFF, go to step 13 . IF the scan tool does not indicate that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is OFF, go to step 8 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter. If the scan tool indicates that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is OFF, go to step 11 . If the scan tool does not indicate that the RED BRAKE INDICATOR parameter is OFF, go to step 9 .
- Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch and daytime running lights for a short to ground. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 18 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 12 .
- Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a short to ground. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 18 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 12 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 18 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 14 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 18 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 15 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the daytime running lights. If the condition was found and corrected, go to step 18 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 16 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. If the condition was corrected and found, go to step 18 . If the condition was not found and corrected, go to step 17 .
- Replace the park brake switch. See PARKING BRAKE SWITCH . If the repair is completed, go to step 18 .
- Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If the repair is completed, go to step 18 .
- Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If the repair is completed, go to step 18 .
- Replace the daytime running lights module. If the repair is completed, go to step 18 .
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the condition is corrected, system is okay. If the condition is not corrected, go to step 2 .
