Stop Light Switch

NOTE:
Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch adjustment may cause brake drag, heat buildup and excessive brake lining wear.
- Adjust the cruise control release switch and the stop light and Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) switch at the same time. Adjust the cruise control clutch switch or the cruise control clutch anticipate switch if equipped after the clutch pedal is installed. See Fig 1 .
- Depress the brake or the clutch pedal. Insert the following switches into the pedal with the bracket until the retainers on the switches are fully seated. The cruise control release switch, stop light and TCC switch, cruise control clutch switch and/or cruise control clutch anticipate switch if equipped.
- Slowly pull the brake or clutch pedal rearward with a force of 50 Lbs (222 N) until clicking sounds are no longer heard. At this point, the retainers on the switches will be adjusted. Measure the cruise control release switch. Measure the stop light and TCC switch. The switch contacts should be open at 1.0" (25.4 mm) or less of brake pedal travel.
- The switch contacts should occur at the same time, just prior to the onset of braking. The brake pedal travel may be up to 1.0" (25.4 mm) before the cruise control system disengages.
CAUTION:
Excessive or insufficient force may not allow correct switch adjustment, resulting in improper function of switches or brake system drag.
