Removal & Installation: Evaporator: Removal

  1. Recover the refrigerant. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove HVAC module assembly. Remove the heater rear case bolts.
  2. Remove the heater rear case:
    • Slide the heater rear case downward in order to disengage the upper case clip.
    • Remove the heater rear case.
    • Use a small hand saw to remove the perforated section of the evaporator case. This section will be reused.
    • Water may leak onto the carpeting when performing this procedure. Place a mat on the passenger side floor.
    • Remove the A/C evaporator bracket nut.
    • Remove the A/C evaporator bracket.
    • Remove the bolts from the engine compartment side of the A/C evaporator upper and lower case.
    • Open the case slightly.
    • Remove the A/C evaporator seal.
    • Remove the evaporator. See Fig 1.
    • Transfer the A/C evaporator air filter to the new evaporator.
