Installation (Rear Door - Impala)

CAUTION: Use correct fastener in correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in service procedures. DO NOT use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage fastener. Use correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to part and systems.
  1. Install power door lock switch to inside door handle bezel pressing into place until fully seated. Before installing door trim panel to door inner panel, old trim panel retainers MUST be discarded and replaced with NEW trim panel retainers.
  2. Install new trim panel retainers to door trim panel. Connect and route electrical connectors through openings in door trim panel. Align door trim panel to door inner panel, guiding door handle through trim panel. Install upper edge of door trim panel to top edge of inner door panel, pressing down firmly until retainer clips are fully seated. Align two locator pins on door trim panel to door inner panel. Install door trim panel pressing firmly until retainer clips are fully seated around perimeter of trim panel.
  3. Align door water deflector to door inner panel. Secure water deflector at corners. Pull door wiring harness leads through slits in door water deflector. Install door water deflector, start pressing adhesive pattern at bottom center and working outward and upward in order to prevent puckering. Install door inside handle rods to lock. Install door lock in position through access hole in door inner panel. Connect electrical connectors.
  4. Install door lock screws in proper fastener tightening sequence. See Figure . Install a NEW outside handle rod-to-lock clip onto door lock lever. Position door outside door handle rod in clip to eliminate any free play in door outside door handle. Install clip cover closed over threaded door outside door handle rods. Install clip to door inside handle rods. Install door inside handle rods to door inside door handle.
