Hatch Release Inoperative (Coupe)

  1. If body rear end diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body rear end diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Display Body Control Module (BCM) inputs. Monitor HATCH RELEASE SWITCH status while pressing switch. If scan tool does not indicate HATCH RELEASE SWITCH status as ACTIVE when switch is pressed, go to next step. If scan tool indicates HATCH RELEASE SWITCH status as ACTIVE when switch is pressed, go to step  10 .
  3. Remove and inspect F/TNKDR fuse No. 32 (15-amp) located in instrument panel electrical center. See Figure . If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  6 .
  4. Check for short to ground in Orange wire between instrument panel electrical center and foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  5. Check for short to ground in Black wire between foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch and Body Control Module (BCM). If circuit is okay, check for intermittent short to ground or faulty connections at switch. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  6. Check for open in Orange wire between instrument panel electrical center and foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  7. Disconnect foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch terminal pins No. 6 and 1. Press foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch. If momentary continuity is indicated when switch is pressed, go to next step. If momentary continuity is not indicated when switch is pressed, go to step  9 .
  8. Check for open in Black wire between foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch and Body Control Module (BCM). If circuit is okay, go to step  20 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  9. Replace foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch. See FOG LIGHT/REAR COMPARTMENT LID/HATCH RELEASE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  21 .
  10. Remove and inspect HTCHTRK fuse No. 26 (10-amp) located in instrument panel electrical center. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step  13 .
  11. Check for short to ground in Light Blue wire between instrument panel electrical center and each rear hatch latch. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  12. Check both hatch latches for internal short to ground and replace rear hatch latches as necessary. See REAR HATCH LATCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  21 .
  13. Remove HTCHTRK fuse No. 26 (10-amp) located in instrument panel electrical center. Connect test light between HTCHTRK fuse switch signal circuit side of fuse terminals and ground. Press foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch. If test light does not flash once, go to next step. If test light flashes once, go to step  17 .
  14. With test light still connected, replace HTCHTRK REL micro relay No. 39 with a known-good relay. HTCHTRK REL micro relay is located in instrument panel electrical center. See Figure . Press foglight/rear compartment lid/hatch release switch. If test light flashes once, go to next step. If test light does not flash once, go to step  16 .
  15. Replace faulty HTCHTRK REL relay. Reinstall HTCHTRK fuse. Go to step  21 .
  16. Check for open in Light Blue wire between instrument panel electrical center and BCM. If circuit is okay, go to step  20 . If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  17. Repair open in Light Blue wire between instrument panel electrical center and each rear hatch latch. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  18. Check for open or high resistance in Black wires between each rear hatch latch and ground connection G302. G302 is located at base of passenger's "B" pillar. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If faulty circuit is found and repaired, go to step  21 .
  19. Replace inoperative rear hatch latch. See REAR HATCH LATCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  21 .
  20. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CORVETTE article. After repairs, go to next step.
  21. Clear any DTCs that might have set during testing. Recheck system operation. If system operates properly, repair is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
