Fuel Filler Door Release Inoperative

  1. Disconnect fuel filler door release switch connector. Using a DVOM, measure voltage at fuel filler door release switch connector terminal "D" (Orange wire). See Fig 1 . If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to step  8 . If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to next step.
  2. Check F/TNKDR fuse No. 32 (15-amp) located in instrument panel electrical center. See Figure . If fuse is okay, go to step  5 . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  3. Replace F/TNKDR fuse No. 32. If fuse blows immediately after installing, go to next step. If fuse does not blow, go to step  6 .
  4. Repair short to ground in Orange wire between instrument panel electrical center and fuel filler door release switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs, go to step  15 .
  5. Repair open in Orange wire between instrument panel electrical center and fuel filler door release switch. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  6. Disconnect fuel filler door release actuator. See FUEL FILLER DOOR RELEASE ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reconnect fuel filler door release switch connector. Depress fuel filler door release switch. If F/TNKDR fuse No. 32 blows, go to next step. If F/TNKDR fuse No. 32 does not blow, go to step  13 .
  7. Repair short to ground in Pink wire between fuel filler door release actuator and fuel filler door release switch. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  8. Disconnect fuel filler door release switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between fuel filler door release switch component pins "D" and "E". Depress fuel filler door release switch. If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, go to step  14 .
  9. Disconnect fuel filler door release actuator. Reconnect fuel filler door release switch connector. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between fuel filler door release actuator connector terminal "A" (Pink wire) and ground. Depress fuel filler door release switch. If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to step  11 . If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to next step.
  10. Repair open in Pink wire between fuel filler door release actuator and fuel filler door release switch. Recheck system operation.
  11. Using DVOM, measure resistance between fuel filler door release actuator connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and ground connection G302. G302 is located at base of passenger's "B" pillar. If continuity is indicated, go to step  13 . If continuity is not indicated, go to next step.
  12. Repair open in Black wire between fuel filler door release actuator and splice pack SP302. SP302 is located near ground G302 on passenger's "B" pillar. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  13. Inspect for binding or malfunctioning parts for fuel filler door and release. Adjust fuel filler door release actuator to release position. If fuel filler door and release solenoid okay, replace fuel filler door release actuator. See FUEL FILLER DOOR RELEASE ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace fuel filler door release switch. See FUEL FILLER DOOR RELEASE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  15. Recheck system operation. If system operates properly, repair is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 .
