Folding Top Compartment Lid Release Inoperative (Convertible)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If body rear end diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body rear end diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Display Body Control Module (BCM) inputs. Monitor FOLDING TOP RELEASE SWITCH status while pressing folding top compartment lid release switch. If scan tool indicates FOLDING TOP RELEASE SWITCH status as ACTIVE when switch is pressed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate FOLDING TOP RELEASE SWITCH status as ACTIVE when switch is pressed, go to step  14 .
  3. Remove and inspect TONN REL fuse No. 17 (10-amp) located in instrument panel electrical center under passenger floor board. See Fig 1 . If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, go to step  8 .
  4. Remove extension panel from between seatbacks. See FOLDING TOP COMPARTMENT LID LATCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect folding top compartment lid latch connector. Connect test light between folding top compartment lid latch connector terminals "A" (Purple wire) and "B" (Black wire). Depress folding top compartment lid release switch. If test light comes on, go to step  9 . If test light does not come on, go to next step.
  5. Connect test light between folding top compartment lid latch connector terminal "A" (Purple wire) and ground. Depress folding top compartment lid release switch. If test light comes on, go to step  10 . If test light does not come on, go to next step.
  6. With test light still connected, remove TONN REL micro relay No. 41 from instrument panel electrical center under passenger floor board. Connect fused jumper between micro relay No. 41 cavity terminals BATT and No. 2168. See Fig 2 . If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step  11 .
  7. Using DVOM, measure resistance between TONN REL micro relay No. 41 cavity terminal No. 2169 and ground. Depress folding top compartment lid release switch. If DVOM indicates continuity when switch is depressed, go to step  13 . If DVOM does not indicate continuity when switch is depressed, go to step  12 .
  8. Check for short to ground in Purple wire between folding top compartment lid latch and instrument panel electrical center. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, replace folding top compartment lid latch. See FOLDING TOP COMPARTMENT LID LATCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  9. Replace folding top compartment lid latch. See FOLDING TOP COMPARTMENT LID LATCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  10. Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between folding top compartment lid release switch and splice pack SP302. SP302 is located near ground G302 on passenger's "B" pillar. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  11. Repair open or high resistance in Purple wire between folding top compartment lid latch and instrument panel electrical center. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  12. Check for open or high resistance in Gray wire between BCM and instrument panel electrical center. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CORVETTE article. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  13. Replace TONN REL micro relay No. 41 in instrument panel electrical center. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  14. Disconnect folding top compartment lid release switch connector. While monitoring folding top compartment lid release switch status on scan tool, connect fused jumper between folding top compartment lid release switch connector terminal "A" (Red/Dark Green wire) and ground. If scan tool indicates switch as ACTIVE when fused jumper is connected, go to step  16 . If scan tool does not indicate switch as ACTIVE when fused jumper is connected, go to next step.
  15. Check for open or high resistance in Red/Dark Green wire between folding top compartment lid release switch and instrument panel electrical center or Light Green wire between BCM and instrument panel electrical center. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CORVETTE article. After repairs, go to step  17 .
  16. Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between folding top compartment lid release switch and splice pack SP302. SP302 is located near ground G302 on passenger's "B" pillar. If circuit is okay, replace folding top compartment lid release switch. See FOLDING TOP COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  17. Clear any DTCs that might have set during testing. Recheck system operation. If system operates properly, repair is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
