Test S: Turn Signal Indicators Always On Or Flashing: Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform LIGHTING SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Engage the park brake. Turn ignition to RUN position. Place the turn signal switch in the OFF position. If any of the turn signals are illuminated, go to step  4. If any of the turn signals are not illuminated, go to next step.
  3. Place the turn signal switch in the RH ON position and LH ON position. If turn signals do not operate properly, test for intermittent and poor connection. See TROUBLE SHOOTING . If turn signals operate properly, go to step  11.
  4. If turn signal lamps are flashing, go to step  12. If turn signal lamps are not flashing, go to next step.
  5. If front turn signals are illuminated, go to next step. If front turn signals are not illuminated, go to step  9.
  6. If red brake indicator is illuminated, go to next step. If red brake indicator is not illuminated, test for intermittent and poor connection. SeeTROUBLE SHOOTING .
  7. Disconnect daytime running lamps (DRL) control module connector. If affected turn signals remain illuminated, go to step  10. If affected turn signals do not remain illuminated, go to next step.
  8. Inspect for a short to voltage in affected turn signal switch signal circuit of the daytime running lamps (DRL) control module. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step  14. If no condition is found, go to step  13.
  9. For Camaro only. Repair short to voltage in the supply voltage circuit of the affected rear turn signal. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step  14.
  10. Repair short to voltage in the supply voltage circuit of the affected front turn signal. If condition is found, repair as necessary and go to step  14.
  11. If turn signals illuminate but do not flash when switch is ON, replace turn signal lamp flasher. If replacement is complete, go to step  14.
  12. Replace turn signal switch. If replacement is complete, go to step  14.
  13. Replace daytime running lamps (DRL). If replacement is complete, go to next step.
  14. Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step  2.
