Testing (2001)

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Ensure driver's seat belt is unbuckled. Turn ignition switch to RUN position and observe fasten seat belt indicator. If fasten seat belt indicator illuminates, go to next step. If fasten seat belt indicator does not illuminate, perform TEST P: FASTEN SEAT BELT INDICATOR/CHIME INOPERATIVE .
  3. Turn headlights on. If headlights illuminate, go to next step. If headlights do not illuminate, repair headlights as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  4. Deactivate air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Ensure ignition key is in ignition lock cylinder. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located below right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. See Figure. Connect a test light between BCM harness connector C3 terminal No. C14 (Light Green wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  8.
  5. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Ensure driver's door is open. Connect a test light between BCM harness connector C3 terminal D11 and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  7.
  6. Disconnect headlight switch 10-pin harness connector. Inspect Brown wire for an open between BCM harness connector C3 terminal D15 and headlight switch harness connector terminal "C". If an open is not found, go to step  11. If an open is found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  7. Inspect Gray/Black wire for an open between BCM harness connector C3 terminal D11 and driver's door lock harness connector terminal "A". If an open is not found, go to step  10. If an open is found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  8. Inspect Light Green wire for an open between BCM harness connector C3 terminal C14 and ignition key alarm switch harness connector terminal "F". If an open is not found, go to next step. If an open is found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  9. Inspect Black wire for an open or high resistance between ground and ignition key alarm switch harness connector terminal "E". Ground point is located behind left kick panel, near "A" pillar. If an open or high resistance is not found, go to step  13. If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  10. Inspect Black wire for an open or high resistance between ground and driver's door lock harness connector "D". Ground point is located behind left kick panel, near "A" pillar. If an open or high resistance is not found, go to step  12. If an open or high resistance is found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  11. Inspect BCM harness connector C3 for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  16. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  12. Inspect driver's door lock harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  15. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  13. Inspect ignition key alarm switch harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to next step. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  17.
  14. Replace ignition key alarm switch, then go to step  17.
  15. Replace driver's door lock, then go to step  17.
  16. Replace BCM. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
  17. Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step  2.
