Testing (2002)
- If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- If any indicators are illuminated, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If indicators are not illuminated, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Turn headlight switch off. Remove key from ignition. Open driver's door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, inspect for intermittents and poor connection. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect C216. Open driver's door. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, go to step 6.
- Test the key in ignition switch signal circuit between C216 and the BCM for a short to ground. If condition was found, repair as necessary and go to step 9. If no condition was found, go to step 8.
- Test the key in ignition switch signal circuit between C216 and the ignition key alarm switch for a short to ground. If condition was found, repair as necessary and go to step 9. If no condition was found, go to next step.
- Replace the ignition switch, then go to step 9.
- Replace the BCM, then go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step 2.
