Testing (2002)
- If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool. Turn ignition to RUN position. Observe Engine Oil Level Switch parameter in the PCM Engine Data 2 data list. If Engine Oil Level Switch parameter displays OK, go to next step. If Engine Oil Level Switch parameter does not display OK, go to step 4.
- If the low engine oil indicator remains illuminated after the display test, go to step 11. If low engine oil indicator does not remain illuminated after the display test, inspect for intermittents and poor connection. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect engine oil level switch. Connect a ampere fused jumper between the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch and a good ground. Turn ignition to RUN position. Observe the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter with scan tool. If the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter displays OK, go to step 6. If he Engine Oil Level Switch parameter does not display OK, go to next step.
- Inspect Engine Oil Level Switch for an open, for a high resistance, or for a short to battery voltage. If condition was found, repair as necessary and go to step 12. If no condition was found, go to step 8.
- Inspect the ground circuit of the Engine Oil Level Switch for an open or a high resistance. If condition was found, repair as necessary and go to step 12. If no condition was found, go to next step.
- Inspect engine oil level switch harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary and go to step 12. If poor connections are not found, go to step 9.
- Inspect PCM harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary and go to step 12. If poor connections are not found, go to step 10.
- Replace engine oil level switch, then go to step 12.
- Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to step 12.
- Replace IPC. Program IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step 2.
