Test K: Check Gauges Indicator Inoperative: Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start vehicle and observe CHECK GAUGES indicator. If CHECK GAUGES indicator does not illuminate during prove out, go to next step. If CHECK GAUGES indicator illuminates during prove out, inspect for intermittents or poor connections. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, perform instrument cluster displays test. If CHECK GAUGES indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If CHECK GAUGES indicator illuminates, perform POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Program IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
  5. Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step  3.
