Test I: Change Engine Oil Indicator Always On: Testing
- If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe Engine Oil Life Percent in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) engine 2 data list. If scan tool displays zero percent with change engine oil message on, go to next step. If scan tool does not display zero percent with change engine oil message on, go to step 4.
- Reset GM engine oil life system. See OIL LIFE INDEX RESET in appropriate RESET PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. Using scan tool, observe Engine Oil Life Percent in PCM engine 2 data list. If Engine Oil Life parameter does not display 100%, go to next step. If Engine Oil Life parameter displays 100%, go to step 5.
- Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Program IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step 2.
