Test H: Volt Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative: Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position and observe volt gauge. If volt gauge does not display battery voltage, go to next step. If volt gauge displays battery voltage, inspect for intermittents or poor connections. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Input Ignition 1 parameter. Ignition 1 parameter should be 9-16 volts. If Ignition 1 parameter is not as specified, go to next step. If Ignition 1 parameter is as specified, go to step  6.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect IPC 34-pin harness connector. IPC is integral to instrument cluster. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Inspect Pink wire for an open between IPC harness connector terminal A3 and instrument panel fuse block. See Figure. If an open is not found, go to next step. If an open is found, repair as necessary then go to step  7.
  5. Inspect IPC harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to next step. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  7.
  6. Replace IPC. Program IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
  7. Operate system to verify repair. If condition has been corrected, system is operating correctly at this time. If condition has not been corrected, repeat test procedure beginning at step  2.
