Test B: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative: Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, sweep engine coolant temperature gauge. Engine coolant temperature gauge should sweep from "C" to "H", then back to "C". If engine coolant temperature gauge operation is not as specified, go to next step. If engine coolant temperature gauge operation is as specified, inspect for intermittents or poor connections. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
  3. Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Program IPC. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
  4. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates correctly, system is okay at this time. If system does not operate correctly, repeat test procedure beginning at step  2.
