Testing (2001)

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Raise and support rear drive wheels. Start engine and let idle. Place gearshift selector in Drive position on automatic transmissions, or 3rd gear for manual transmissions. Observe speedometer. If speedometer does not indicate vehicle speed, go to next step. If speedometer indicates vehicle speed, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 80-pin harness connector C1 (3.8L) or C2 (5.7L). PCM is located on right side of engine compartment, near rear of wheelwell. Measure voltage of Dark Green/White wire between ground and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 55 or PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 50. If voltage is less than 9.6 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9.6 volts or more, go to step  6.
  4. Inspect Dark Green/White wire for an open between ground and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 55 or PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 50. If an open is not found, go to next step. If an open is found, repair as necessary then go to step  8.
  5. Inspect Dark Green/White wire for a short to ground between ground and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 55 or PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 50. If a short to ground is not found, go to next step. If a short to ground is found, repair as necessary then go to step  8.
  6. Inspect PCM harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to next step. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  8.
  7. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate system to verify repair. If DTC resets, repeat test procedure beginning at step  2.
