Test G: Horns Always On

  1. Review horn operation. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  . After review, go to next step.
  2. Depress and release horn switch. If horn is on at all times, go to next step. If horn is not on at all times, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. If vehicle is equipped with theft deterrent, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with theft deterrent, go to step  5 .
  4. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. If horn is on at all times, go to next step. If horn is not on at all times, go to step  9 .
  5. Remove horn relay from top underhood fuse block. Top underhood fuse block is located on left front corner of engine compartment. If horn is not on at all times, go to next step. If horn is on at all times, go to step  10 .
  6. Connect a test light between horn relay sockets E8 (Orange wire) and F8 (Black wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  8 .
  7. Inspect horn relay sockets for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  12 . If poor connections are found, repair horn relay sockets as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  8. Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Repair short to ground in Black wire between horn relay, horn slip ring and horn switch. After repair, go to step  13 .
  9. Inspect BCM harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  11 . If poor connections are found, repair BCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  10. Repair short to voltage in Black wire between horn relay, horn slip ring and horn switch. After repair, go to step  13 .
  11. Replace BCM. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace horn relay, then go to next step.
  13. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  1 .
