Ignition Switch: Installation

  1. Install the automatic park lock cable, if equipped. Move the switch slider to the extreme right position and move the slider one detent to the left, to ensure the ignition switch is in the LOCK position. Ensure that the steering column lock and ignition cylinder are in the LOCK position. Install ignition switch (7) to the jacket (1).
  2. Install the ignition switch actuator rod (3) to the ignition switch. Install the bolt/screw (6) and tighten to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in). Install dimmer switch (5) to the ignition switch (7). Install bolts/screws (4). To adjust the dimmer switch, press the switch mechanism slightly to insert 3/32-inch drill bit and move dimmer switch to remove the lash. Tighten the bolts/screws (4) to 4 N.m (35 lb in).
  3. Install the electrical connectors to the dimmer switch (5) and the ignition switch (7). See Fig 1 . Install and adjust the parking brake switches. Raise the column. Install the steering column upper support nuts. Install the steering column dash cover bolts. Install the instrument panel driver knee bolster. Enable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
