Test C: Lights Inoperative In Content Theft Deterrent Alarm Mode: Testing

  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform diagnostic system check before proceeding. See THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Test theft deterrent output. See THEFT DETERRENT OUTPUTS TEST  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If exterior lights do not flash, go to next step. If exterior lights flash, inspect for intermittents or poor connections. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
  3. Remove theft deterrent relay. Theft deterrent relay is located behind center of instrument panel, attached to inflatable restraint module bracket. See Figure. Connect a test light between ground and theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal C1 (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  11.
  4. Connect a test light between theft deterrent relay harness connector terminals A1 (Black/White wire) and C1 (Orange wire). Press LOCK button on remote transmitter. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  12.
  5. Connect a test light between ground and theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal C2 (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9.
  6. Connect a test light between ground and theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal C2 (Orange wire). Turn parking lights on. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10.
  7. Test Brown wire for a poor connection between ground and theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal A2. If a poor connection is not found, go to next step. If a poor connection is found, repair as necessary then go to step  16.
  8. Replace theft deterrent relay, then go to step  16.
  9. Repair open in Orange wire between theft deterrent relay and instrument panel fuse block. Instrument panel fuse block is located behind left side of instrument panel. Go to step  16.
  10. Repair open in Orange wire between theft deterrent relay and instrument panel fuse block. Instrument panel fuse block is located behind left side of instrument panel. Go to step  16.
  11. Repair open in Orange wire between theft deterrent relay and instrument panel fuse block. Instrument panel fuse block is located behind left side of instrument panel. Go to step  16.
  12. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. See Figure. Using a test light, test Black/White wire between theft deterrent relay harness connector terminal A1 and BCM harness connector terminal C8. See Figure. Observe test light while pressing LOCK button on remote transmitter. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  14.
  13. Repair open in Black/White wire between theft deterrent relay and BCM. Go to step  16.
  14. Disconnect all BCM harness connectors. Inspect for corroded or pushed out pins. Connect all BCM harness connectors. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, go to next step. If concern does not exist, go to step  16. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  15. Replace BCM. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to next step.
  16. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  3.
