DTC P1626: Theft Deterrent System Fuel Enable Signal Lost: Testing

  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform diagnostic system check before proceeding. See THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DISPLAY DTC. If scan tool displays DTC P1626 as a current DTC, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P1626 as a current DTC, inspect for intermittents or poor conditions. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 32-pin harness connector C3. BCM is located behind right side of instrument panel, near blower motor. See Figure. Using a Digital Multimeter (DMM), measure voltage between ground and BCM harness connector C3 terminal D8 (Dark Blue wire). See Figure. Voltage should be about 5 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, go to step  6.
  4. Using PASS-Key(R) II VATS Interrogator (J35628-A), insert ignition key. PASS-Key(R) II VATS Interrogator should indicate a valid code 1-15. If code is as specified, go to next step. If code is not as specified, go to step  12.
  5. Using PASS-Key(R) II VATS Interrogator (J35628-A), connect one lead to BCM harness connector C3 terminal D7 (White/Black wire) and other lead to BCM harness connector C3 terminal C2 (Purple/White wire). See Figure. Insert ignition key, and turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe PASS-Key(R) II VATS Interrogator (J35628-A) display. If key code matches code from previous step, go to step  8. If key code does not match code from previous step, go to step  9.
  6. Inspect Dark Blue wire for an open, short to ground or short to voltage between ground and BCM harness connector C3 terminal D8. If an open, short to ground or short to voltage is not found, go to next step. If an open, short to ground or short to voltage is found, repair as necessary then go to step  14.
  7. Disconnect PCM 80-pin harness connector. PCM is located in right side of engine compartment, near rear of wheelwell. Inspect PCM harness connector for poor connections. If poor conditions are not found, go to step  10. If poor conditions are found, repair as necessary then go to step  14.
  8. Inspect BCM harness connector poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  11. If poor connections are found, repair as necessary then go to step  14.
  9. Disconnect ignition lock cylinder 2-pin harness connector. Inspect White/Black wire for an open, high resistance, short to ground or short to voltage between BCM harness connector C3 terminal D7 and ignition lock cylinder harness connector terminal "A". See Figure. Inspect Purple/White wire for an open, high resistance, short to ground or short to voltage between BCM harness connector C3 terminal C2 and ignition lock cylinder harness connector terminal "B". If an open, high resistance, short to ground or short to voltage is not found, go to step  13. If an open, high resistance, short to ground or short to voltage is found, repair as necessary then go to step  14.
  10. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to step  14.
  11. Replace BCM. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to step  14.
  12. Replace ignition key. See REPLACING IGNITION KEY  under PROGRAMMING. After replacement, go to step  14.
  13. Replace ignition lock cylinder, and go to next step.
  14. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle starts, system is operating correctly at this time. If vehicle does not start, repeat test beginning at step  2.
