Pass-Key(R) II System

PASS-Key(R) II is standard equipment designed to prevent vehicle theft by disabling engine's fuel system and starter, unless ignition key with a specific electrical resistance is used in ignition key lock cylinder. PASS-Key(R) II system operates using sensing contacts which are located in ignition key lock cylinder. These contact a key resistor pellet which is located on ignition key. When ignition lock cylinder is rotated, battery voltage is applied through appropriate fuse to Body Control Module (BCM). Pellet resistance is then compared with programmed value in BCM non-volatile memory. System components include ignition key, ignition key lock cylinder, BCM, SECURITY indicator, starter relay and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM communicates with BCM through class 2 serial data circuit. If BCM receives incorrect ignition code, BCM will automatically enter a tamper mode. During this mode, SECURITY indicator will flash and vehicle will be in a lock-out for 3 minutes. When BCM enters tamper mode, it sends a message to PCM in order to disable fuel injection system. If BCM receives expected ignition code, BCM sends message to PCM, which enables fuel injection system.
