DTC P1586: Decrease In Vehicle Speed Without A Switch Signal (3.8L Engine): Testing
- If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)/brake switch parameter. If scan tool indicates TCC/brake switch RELEASED, go to next step. If scan tool indicates TCC/brake switch APPLIED, go to step 4.
- Using scan tool, monitor TCC/brake switch parameter, while depressing brake pedal. If scan tool indicates TCC/brake switch APPLIED, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool indicate TCC/brake switch RELEASED, go to step 6.
- Disconnect TCC/brake switch 2-pin harness connector. TCC/brake switch is located on brake pedal bracket. Inspect Purple wire for an open, high resistance or short to ground between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 80-pin Blue harness connector C1 terminal No. 30 and TCC/brake switch harness connector terminal "D". If an open, high resistance or short to ground is not found, go to next step. If an open, high resistance or short to ground is found, repair Purple wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 12.
- Inspect Pink wire for an open, high resistance or short to ground between underhood fuse block and TCC/brake switch harness connector terminal "C". If an open, high resistance or short to ground is not found, go to step 7. If an open, high resistance or short to ground is found, repair Pink wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 12.
- Inspect Purple wire for a short to voltage between PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 30 and TCC/brake switch harness connector terminal "D". If a short to voltage is not found, go to step 9. If a short to voltage is found, repair Purple wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 12.
- Inspect TCC/brake switch for proper adjustment. If adjustment is not necessary, go to next step. If adjustment is necessary, see CRUISE CONTROL RELEASE SWITCH, STOPLIGHT SWITCH & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH/BRAKE SWITCH under ADJUSTMENTS. After repair, go to step 12.
- Inspect TCC/brake switch harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step 10. If poor connections are found, repair TCC/brake switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect PCM 80-pin Blue harness connector C1. PCM is located right side of engine compartment, near rear of wheelwell. Inspect PCM harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step 11. If poor connections are found, repair PCM harness as necessary. After repair, go to step 12.
- Replace TCC/brake switch. After repair, go to step 12.
- Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC. If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step 2.
