DTC P1585: Cruise Inhibit Signal Circuit Malfunction (5.7L Engine): Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 80-pin Red harness connector C2. PCM is located right side of engine compartment, near rear of wheelwell. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a Digital Multimeter (DMM), measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 37 (Dark Green wire). See Figure. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  4.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control module 10-pin harness connector. Cruise control module is located on left front frame rail, behind bumper. Connect a test light between ground and cruise control module harness connector terminal "H" (Dark Green wire). See Figure. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  5. If test light illuminates, go to step  7.
  4. Inspect Dark Green wire for an open, high resistance or short to ground between PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 37 and cruise control module harness connector terminal "H". See Figure and Figure . If an open, high resistance or short to ground is not found, go to step  6. If an open, high resistance or short to ground is found, repair Dark Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  10.
  5. Inspect PCM harness connector C2 for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8. If poor connections are found, repair PCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  10.
  6. Inspect cruise control module harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  9. If poor connections are found, repair cruise control module harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  10.
  7. Repair short to voltage in Dark Green wire between PCM and cruise control module. After repair, go to step  10.
  8. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  10.
  9. Replace cruise control module, then go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC. If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step  2.
