DTC P0571: Cruise Control Release Switch Circuit Failure: Testing
- If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor cruise control release switch. If scan tool displays cruise control release switch applied, go to next step. If scan tool does not display cruise control switch applied, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect cruise control release switch 2-pin harness connector. Cruise control release switch is located on brake pedal bracket. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor cruise control release switch parameter. If scan tool does not display released, go to next step. If scan tool displays released, go to step 5.
- Inspect Brown wire for a short to voltage between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector C2 terminal No. 24 and cruise control release switch harness connector terminal "A". If a short to voltage is not found, go to step 7. If a short to voltage is found, repair Brown wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect cruise control release switch to proper adjustment. If adjustment is not necessary, go to next step. If adjustment is necessary, see CRUISE CONTROL RELEASE SWITCH, STOPLIGHT SWITCH & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH/BRAKE SWITCH under ADJUSTMENTS. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect cruise control release switch harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step 9. If poor connections are found, repair cruise control release switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step 9. If poor connections are found, repair PCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step 10.
- Replace cruise control release switch. After repair, go to step 10.
- Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC. If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step 2.
