DTC P0568: Set/Coast Switch Signal Malfunction (3.8L Engine): Testing

  1. If diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform CRUISE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
    2. NOTE: If DTC P1518 is retrieved, repair DTC P1518 first before proceeding with this test step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn cruise control switch to OFF position. If scan tool indicates cruise control SET (Set/Coast) switch ON, go to next step. If scan tool indicates cruise control SET switch OFF, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) module 24-pin harness connector. TAC module is located on accelerator pedal bracket. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, monitor cruise control SET switch parameter. If scan tool indicates cruise control SET switch is OFF, go to next step. If scan tool indicates cruise control SET switch is ON, go to step  6.
  4. Disconnect multifunction switch lever 11-pin harness connector. Multifunction switch lever harness connector is located at base of steering column. Inspect Gray/Black wire for a short to voltage between multifunction switch harness connector terminal "J" and TAC module harness connector terminal No. 21. See Figure. If a short to voltage is not found, go to next step. If a short to voltage is found, repair Gray/Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  5. Inspect multifunction switch lever harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  7. If poor connections are found, repair multifunction switch lever harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  6. Inspect TAC module harness connector for poor connections. If poor connections are not found, go to step  8. If poor connections are found, repair TAC module harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  9.
  7. Replace cruise control switch. After repair, go to step  9.
  8. Replace TAC module, then go to next step.
  9. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC. If DTC resets, repeat test beginning at step  2.
