Cruise Control (5.7L Engine)

Cruise control system maintains a desired vehicle speed under normal driving conditions. Steep grades may cause variations in selected speeds. System has capabilities to CRUISE, COAST, RESUME, ACCELERATE and TAP-UP or TAP-DOWN. Vehicle is NOT equipped with Electronic Throttle Control (ETC). Main components of system include Cruise Control Module, cruise control switches, stoplight switch assembly, cruise control release switch, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)/brake switch if equipped with automatic transmission, or cruise control clutch switch if equipped with manual transmission. Cruise control module contains an electronic controller and electric stepper motor. Controller monitors vehicle speed and operates electric stepper motor. Responding to controller, stepper motor moves a connecting strap that is attached to cruise control cable. Cable moves throttle linkage to vary throttle position in order to maintain desired cruise speed. Cruise control module contains a low speed limit function which will prevent system engagement when vehicle speeds are less than 25 MPH. Cruise control module receives vehicle speed signal input from Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM receives vehicle signal input from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). PCM will disengage cruise control when vehicle speed is less than 25 MPH, transmission gearshift selector is in Park, Reverse, Neutral or 1st gear positions, low engine RPM, high engine RPM, an over or under charged battery voltage condition exists or Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is active for 2 seconds or more. On Camaro, Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) System is optional equipment. On Firebird, Traction Control System (TCS) is optional equipment. If vehicle is equipped with ASR or TCS, cruise control will disengage during low traction conditions.
