Ignition Switch: Removal

  1. Disable air bag system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove instrument panel driver's knee bolster and deflector. Turn ignition cylinder and steering column lock in the LOCK position.
  2. Remove steering column upper support nuts. Remove the steering column dash cover bolts. Remove lower steering column (8). Remove brake switches. Disconnect headlight dimmer switch (5) and ignition switch (7) harness connectors. Remove bolts/screws (4) and headlight dimmer switch (5). Remove bolt/screw (6) lift ignition switch up, away from actuator rod (2). Remove ignition switch (7). Remove automatic transmission park lock cable, if equipped. See Figure .
