Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Right)
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
2. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement.
3. Remove the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement.
4. Disconnect the engine right side spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement.
5. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve.
6. Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Refer to EVAP Canister Purge Valve Replacement in Computers and Controls.
7. Remove the ignition module bracket with the coils.
8. Remove the vacuum hose from the grommet in the engine right side valve rocker arm cover.
9. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
10. Remove the valve rocker arm cover and gasket.
11. Clean the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Clean and Inspect.
12. Clean the valve rocker arm cover gasket sealing surfaces on the cylinder head and the lower intake manifold.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the valve rocker arm cover gasket into the valve rocker arm cover.
2. Apply sealer GM P/N 12345739 or the equivalent to the notches where the cylinder head and intake manifold meet.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
^ Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
4. Install the vacuum hose to the grommet in the engine right side valve rocker arm cover.
5. Install the ignition coil bracket with coils.
6. Install the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Refer to EVAP Canister Purge Valve Replacement in Computers and Controls.
7. Connect the vacuum hoses from the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.
8. Connect the engine right side spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement.
9. Install the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement.
10. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
