Valve Lifter Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the engine left side valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Left Side) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Right Side).
2. Remove the engine right side valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Ann Cover Replacement (Engine Left Side) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Right Side).
3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).
4. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).
5. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
6. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
7. Remove the lifter guide.

Important: Place the valve train parts in a rack in order to ensure that they are installed in the same location from which they were removed.

8. Remove the lifter(s).
9. Clean and inspect the valve lifter(s). Refer to Valve Lifters Clean and Inspect.

Installation Procedure

Important: Install the lifters to the same location from which they were removed.

1. Install the lifters and the lifter guide. Refer to Valve Lifter Installation.
2. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement.
3. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).
4. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper) or Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).
5. Install the engine right side valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Left Side) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Right Side).
6. Install the engine left side valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Left Side) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement (Engine Right Side).
