Parking Brake Backing Plate: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the rear brake caliper bracket with the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear (Export).
4. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (Export).
5. Remove the park brake actuator (7). Refer to Park Brake Actuator Replacement.
6. Remove the park brake actuator retainer (5) to the park brake actuator.
7. Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing (4). Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement -Rear (Domestic) or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Export).
8. Remove the park brake shoe (3) with the park brake support plate from the knuckle.
9. Remove the park brake shoe and lining (3) from the park brake support plate.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the park brake shoe and lining (3) to the park brake support plate.
2. Install the park brake shoe with the park brake support plate to the knuckle.
3. Install the rear wheel hub and bearing (4). Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Domestic) or Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement - Rear (Export).
4. Install the park brake actuator retainer (5) from the park brake actuator.
5. Install the park brake actuator (7). Refer to Park Brake Actuator Replacement.
6. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear (Export).
7. Install the rear brake caliper bracket with the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Rear (Export).
8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
9. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment.
10. Lower the vehicle.
