Rear Energy Absorber Replacement

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover


Removal Procedure

1. Remove the rear bumper fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement (Oldsmobile) ()Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement (Pontiac) () .




2. Use the J 38778 in order to remove the push-in retainers from the front energy absorber.




3. Remove the energy absorber from the rear impact bar.
4. Remove the impact bar bolts from the frame rail.
5. Remove the rear impact bar from the frame rail.



Installation Procedure





1. Align the rear impact bar to the frame rail.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the rear impact bar bolts to the frame rail.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (36 lb ft).





3. Install the energy absorber to the rear impact bar.
4. Install the push-in retainers to the rear energy absorber.
5. Install the rear bumper fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement (Oldsmobile) ()Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement (Pontiac) () .
