Test D: Odometer Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. Perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
  2. Verify fault is present in odometer. If fault is not present, check for poor connection or intermittent condition and repair as necessary. If fault is present with odometer, go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, select PCM data list. Observe Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) input while test driving vehicle. If VSS signal exists, go to next step. If VSS input signal does not exist, see appropriate procedure for DTC(s) present. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Contact an authorized A/C Delco service center for transfer of information from failed Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or affix appropriate label with necessary vehicle information on driver door pillar. Go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Restore any previously disconnected components or connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate system to verify repair is complete. If fault remains, go to step  2 .
