Test M: Low Oil Pressure Message Always On

  1. Perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
  2. Check engine oil level on dipstick. If low, fill to correct level. Verify check engine oil message is always on. If system operates normally, check for intermittent or poor connections in related wiring harnesses and repair as necessary. If system does not operates properly, go to next step.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select PCM data list. Observe engine oil level message data value. If value displayed is OK, go to next step. If value displayed is not OK, go to step  5 .
  4. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Contact an authorized A/C Delco service center for transfer of information from failed Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or affix appropriate label with necessary vehicle information on driver door pillar. Go to step  10 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using test light connected to ground, probe PCM connector terminal No. 58 (Brown wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  7 .
  6. Disconnect engine oil level switch. Probe PCM connector terminal No. 58 (Brown wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to step  8 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9 .
  7. Replace PCM. Perform appropriate reprogramming procedures for replacement PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - TRUCKS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  8. Repair short to ground in Brown wire between PCM connector C2 terminal No. 58 and engine oil level switch connector. Go to step  10 .
  9. Replace engine oil level indicator switch. Go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Restore any previously disconnected components or connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate system to verify repair is complete. If fault remains, go to step  3 .
