Test F: Speedometer Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. Perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
  2. Verify fault is present in speedometer. If fault is not present, check for poor connections or intermittent conditions and repair as necessary. If fault is present with speedometer, go to next step.
  3. Start engine. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using scan tool, select PCM data list. Using scan tool, sweep speedometer gauge. If speedometer gauge does not sweep, go to next step. If speedometer needle moves from zero MPH to 110 MPH, and back to zero MPH during speedometer sweep, perform appropriate procedure for Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) circuit. See appropriate ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Contact an authorized A/C Delco service center for transfer of information from failed Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or affix appropriate label with necessary vehicle information on driver door pillar. Go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Restore any previously disconnected components or connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate system to verify repair is complete. If fault remains, go to step  2 .
