Test E: PRNDL Display Inaccurate Or Inoperative
- Perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
- Verify PRNDL display is inaccurate or inoperative. If PRNDL display is okay, check for an intermittent condition or poor electrical connection in related wiring. If display is inaccurate or inoperative, go to next step.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select PCM data list, then PRNDL position. If PRNDL position displayed on scan tool matches actual vehicle PRNDL position, go to next step. If PRNDL position on scan tool does not match actual vehicle PRNDL position, perform self-diagnostics of Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See appropriate ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Contact an authorized A/C Delco service center for transfer of information from failed Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or affix appropriate label with necessary vehicle information on driver door pillar. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Restore any previously disconnected components or connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate system to verify repair is complete. If fault remains, go to step 3 .
