DTC B0162: Temperature Sensor Circuit Open

  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Perform driver information system diagnostic system check. See DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Go to next step.
  2. If Driver Information Display (DID) displays SC, go to next step. If DID does not display SC, DTC is not present at this time. Check for intermittent or poor connections in related electrical connections. Repair wiring or connections as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ambient air temperature sensor connector. Using a 3-amp fused jumper wire, connect Light Green/Black wire terminal and Black wire terminal of ambient air temperature sensor connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If DID displays SC, go to step  6 . If DID does not display SC, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Driver Information Display (DID). Measure resistance of Light Green/Black wire between ambient air temperature sensor connector and DID connector terminal No. 10. Also, check Light Green/Black wire for voltage. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms and voltage does not exist, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in Light Green/Black wire. If any voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Light Green/Black wire. After repair, go to step  10 .
  5. Measure resistance of Black wire between ambient air temperature sensor connector and DID connector terminal No. 8. See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step  7 . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or high resistance in Black wire. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check for intermittent or poor connections at air temperature sensor and related electrical connections. Inspect wiring harness for damage or intermittent short to ground. Repair wiring or connections as necessary, and go to step  10 . If connections are in good condition, go to step  8 .
  7. Check for intermittent or poor connections at DID and related electrical connections. Inspect wiring harness for damage or intermittent short to ground. Repair wiring or connections as necessary, and go to step  10 . If connections are in good condition, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace ambient air temperature sensor. Go to step  10 .
  9. Replace Driver Information Display (DID). Calibrate DID compass. See COMPASS CALIBRATION  under ADJUSTMENTS. Go to step  10 .
  10. Using scan tool, record DTCs present. Clear DTCs present. Retest system for normal operation. See DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If fault remains, go to step  2 .
