Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement: Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the instrument panel trim panel. .
  3. Remove the center console, if equipped.
  4. Remove the driver side knee bolster.
  5. Remove the lower I/P trim panel.
  6. Remove the passenger side air bag module. Refer to AIR BAG MODULES .
  7. Remove the radio.
  8. Remove the HVAC control. Refer to appropriate HVAC SYSTEMS article.
  9. Remove the accessory switch housing.
  10. Remove the left air louver housing.
  11. Remove the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT .
  12. Remove the VIU, if equipped.
  13. Remove the VCU, if equipped.
  14. Remove the remote control door lock receiver module, if equipped.
  15. Remove the data link connector from the instrument panel.
  16. Remove the park brake release lever from the instrument panel. Refer to DISC BRAKES & DRUM BRAKES .
  17. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  18. Remove both front window air duct from the instrument panel assembly.
  19. Remove the harness from the instrument panel.
  20. Remove the instrument panel assembly retaining nuts (4) and bolts (3).
  21. Remove all harness hold down retainers from the instrument panel assembly.

  22. Remove the instrument panel assembly from the vehicle.
  23. Remove the instrument panel upper brackets.

  24. Disconnect all the electrical connectors from the wiring harness junction block.
  25. Remove the transfer case control module from the bracket, if equipped. Refer to REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
  26. Remove the antenna cable from the cross car duct.
  27. Remove the cross car duct.
  28. Remove the amplifier, if equipped.
  29. Separate the instrument panel harness from the carrier.

    Do not remove the I/P harness from the vehicle.

  30. If replacing the HVAC module, remove the right side of the carrier from the vehicle to gain access to the module.

  31. Remove the instrument panel center support bracket bezel (1).

    IMPORTANT: Remove all of the parts of the instrument panel carrier assembly from the vehicle as a unit.
  32. Remove the instrument panel center support bracket bolt.

  33. Remove the instrument panel carrier retaining bolts. The left side is shown in illustration, the right side is similar.

  34. Remove the instrument panel carrier top bolts (1).

  35. Remove the instrument panel carrier (1) from the vehicle.
