Rear Brake Shoes: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel. On ABS equipped models, remove 2 drum retention screws and remove drums.
  2. On non-ABS models, remove spindle cap. Straighten staked portion of spindle nut. Remove and discard spindle nut. Remove washer. Using Adapter (J-34866) and a Slide Hammer (J-2619-01), remove drum/hub assembly from spindle.
  3. Remove return and hold-down springs and anti-rattle spring. Remove brake self-adjusting strut. Disconnect parking brake cable. Remove brake shoes. See Fig 1.
